My favorite plan from Student Teaching
In learning about the Life Cycle of Plants, this science lesson allows students to plant and monitor their very own pumpkin seeds! My students really enjoyed doing this activity and also developed a sense of responsibility in daily plant care. Once the plants reached a certain stage we planted each sprout in our school's garden.
Technology Integration
In preparing for Space Day, my students learned about The Phases of the Moon with a little twist. Integrating our Smartboard we researched different materials as a class and also watched educational science clips on the moon. After each student were able to identify and model each phase of the moon using Oreo's. This was a very YUMMY experience!
Differentiated For Instruction
In this reading lesson, students are learning how to recognize and use text and graphic skills to locate facts in an informational text. This comprehension skill may be too complex for struggling learners in reading. In differentiating,I i tied the independent practice section into our Guided Reading with the teacher station for Daily 5. During this time, students are already grouped together based on reading levels and appropriate book levels. Surprisingly, all of my students did an amazing job with this skill.
Techniques for Assessing
When assessing students learning their are many formative and summative ideas to chose from. In this math lesson, students are learning Place Value to 1000 with the use of manipulative's. Modeling numbers with place-value blocks gives children a concrete representation of place-value concepts and relationships. For example, when modeling the number 235, showing 2 hundreds flats illustrates the value of the digit 2 as 200 ones or 20 tens. Giving children ample opportunities to work with place-value blocks can help them strengthen their understanding of whole number and place value. After instructional time, students were given a simple worksheet for grading.
